Why NETGEAR’s RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter?
The Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter model WNDA3100v1 does not appear to be supported under WIN7 x64. There is a driver available, obstensibly from Atheros, the chipset manufacturer, which allows it to run but with only one radio channel operating under WZC. Netgear states that all WIN7 drivers are the responsibility of Microsoft. The WNDAv2 adapter is apparently compatible with WIN7 but it uses a different (Broadconm) chipset.
When will Microsoft provide drivers for the WNDA3100v1 so that I can obtain the full advantage of my Dual Band router and adapter? Is there a way I can cause both radio channels to connect using the Atheros driver? First: Please provide a link to where Netgear states 'that all WIN7 drivers are the responsibility of Microsoft.' What I found on the Netgear website is: ' Microsoft Windows 7 drivers are part of Windows 7 operating system.
NETGEAR does not have the access to the drivers and can not support them.' That being stated, either Atheros or Netgear would be the source of the drivers provided to Microsoft for inclusion in the Win 7 installation. Microsoft neither writes nor supports third party drivers. Atheros would supply the basic driver to Netgear and then Netgear programmers would supply the customized package for the features Netgear wants. Microsoft will not provide the drivers for WNDA3100v1 until they are provided to them by Netgear. What will happen if Netgear opts to do so is they will publish an updated package that is compaible with Windows 7. Continue to check for updates as stated on the Netgear website @ 'Driver is currently not available.
Please continue to check back for updates.' First: Please provide a link to where Netgear states 'that all WIN7 drivers are the responsibility of Microsoft.'
